Foskor Mine Museum
Foskor Mine Museum (Koper Street, Phalaborwa 1390, Limpopo) –– this museum is dedicated to celebrating the rich, long-standing mining history of the region and the important part this industry has played in terms of the local economy and international recognition. Foskor provides insights into the mining history of Phalaborwa, both ancient and recent, and the Big Hole, which is an opencast mine that has an impressive width of 20 km. and a depth of 450 meters.
In addition, the museum explores ancient smelting techniques used thousands of years ago, when the Sotho folk mined for copper and iron ore in the region and set the scene for generations of miners after them. A significant part of the exhibition is dedicated to the cultures of the area and how they have shaped the modern identity of Limpopo.
